We have been so sad to see some of our Instagram dog friends succumb to cancer in the recent months. Once of those dogs was @izzythegiantschnauzer. She was diagnosed with lymphoma about seven months ago. Lymphoma is unfortunately not curable in dogs.
Thanks to the wonderful care and specialists at the Animal Cancer and Imaging Center (ACIC) in Canton, Michigan, Izzy was able to go into remission and live out many happy, healthy months with her family before the cancer caught up to her again. She lost her fight last week.
Izzy’s family is well aware that many dog parents in the same position would love to extend the life of their furry family member, but the cost of treatment can be prohibitive. Izzy’s one round of chemotherapy (6 cycles) and related check-ups cost nearly $5,000.
For this reason, they have started a GoFundMe page in Izzy’s memory and 100% of donations will go to ACIC’s non-profit organization called the Popeye Animal Cancer Foundation. The foundation helps disadvantaged pet parents alleviate the financial burden that often accompanies pet cancer treatments.
We are excited to announce through this coming weekend, March 22-24, 50% of the profits of any of our Dylan Bandanas sold will go to Izzy’s GoFundMe page. Izzy owned the above bandanas and they looked smashing on her. We’re sure she’d love to see other furry friends enjoy a little color and flair around their necks while doing good!
We welcome others to share their stories here about navigating the journey when a pet is diagnosed with cancer. So many could benefit from parents sharing their experiences, resources, victories and heartbreaks.
