Running back Pete Guerriero will not have to travel far to go to work.
The New York Jets have signed the former Monmouth University football product to a free agent contract, today the school announced on MonmouthHawks.com.
Guerriero–who grew up in Lyndhurst, which is five minutes from Metlife, and starred at Lyndhurst High School–led the Football Championship Subdivision (FCS) in rushing for the Hawks, bolting for 1,995 rushing yards with 18 touchdowns on 298 carries, and a Monmouth- record 2,331 all-purpose yards in 2019.
The five-foot-ten, 190-pounder had surpassed the 100-yard rushing mark in nine of 14 games for the Hawks, coming in third in the voting for the Walter Payton Award – bestowed upon the FCS’ best offensive player.
Guerriero rushed for over 200 yards in four contests over a six-game stretch late in the season. For his efforts, he earned First Team Consensus All-American as a junior.
Additionally, Guerriero was a track standout, adding good speed and explosive play to a running back group that already features Le’Veon Bell, Frank Gore, and La’Mical Perine.
